In 2008 Matahari Beach Resort & Spa received the "Green Hotel Standard"
At the annual meeting of the ASEAN states in Bangkok, the 5-star resort "Matahari Beach Resort & Spa" was awarded the "Green Hotel Standard". Owned by husband and wife team Magnus & Parwathi Bauch from Munich, the luxury resort in Pemuteran on Bali is one of ten hotels in Indonesia that can now boast this prestigious award.
The certification scheme adopted by the ASEAN Tourism Ministers rewards consistent achievement in ecological aspects of hotel management and sets high standards for the future.
For the owners the coveted "Green Hotel Standard" is also recognition of their commitment to the environment and conservation of natural resources.
The only 5-star resort in the north of Bali, a region still scarcely touched by tourism, has its own closed water cycle - from water extraction to recycling. Solar energy is used to provide hot water, and wastewater is purified in a biological water treatment plant and then used for watering the resort's tropical park.
Even the detergent in the hotel's laundry is automatically dosed and consumption is very low - also thanks to the resort's water softening treatment. Also the cuisine has a strong emphasis on natural, unprocessed products and all ingredients come from partner plantations, local farms or are harvested in the own herbs and spice garden. The "Hotel Green Standard" is not the first distinction for the "Matahari Beach Resort & Spa".
The "Tri Hita Karana" tourism award, which requires - in addition to the promotion of Balinese culture - a management in harmony with nature has been received several times in a row already.

The second Emerald Award for Matahari Beach Resort & Spa
The presentation of Tri Hita Karana Tourism Awards and Accreditation 2008 took place on Thursday, 4 December 2008 at Ksirarnawa Hall of Bali Art Center, Denpasar. We are proud that Matahari Beach Resort & Spa has received the Emerald Medal of THK award for the second time valid for the period 4 December 2008 until the 4 December 2011.
The achievement of THK awards has brought positive impact to the hotel industry. In addition to better business climate, almost all hotels that have received the award never had internal problems. "There have been internal improvements in the hotels including harmonious relationship between the hotels and community of surrounding residents,"
Tri Hita Karana is a life concept of the Balinese Community in accomplishing secular and spiritual bliss through harmonization of the relationship between humans and God, human and human, human and environment into an integral unity. Winners of the award get gold, silver, and bronze medal consecutively. Those who receive gold medals for three consecutive years will receive the emerald medal.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee of THK Tourism Awards, Berata Ashram concluded that the award presentation has brought positive impact to surrounding communities. Hotels which have received a gold medal have an obligation to manage a object of tourism. Hotels which have received emerald medal have an obligation to improve life within the surrounding community. All hotels have an obligation to foster poor children to obtain basic education. All of those reflect the corporate social responsibility of the hotel industry. Accompanied by the designer of THK Tourism Awards trophy Nyoman Mudita, Berata Ashrama said that whilst at the beginning the program was focused mainly to the hotel industry, it has now expanded to tourism objects including special enclaves of Bali Tourism Development Center (BTDC).
